The Immensely Talented 2013 Washington Coaching Staff
Hello World,
Ah yes 2013, what a year. The year of the Super Bowl blackout and that time where Ray Allen saved the Miami Heat in the NBA Finals. But there was also some incredible talent hidden amongst the coaching staff of the then-Washington Redskins, let's talk about it.
The head coach at the time was former two-time Super Bowl Champion head coach Mike Shanahan trying to see if he had any magic left to save a desperate Washington franchise. Although the teams never reached the glory of winning a Super Bowl, they actually went 3-13 that year. But we can guarantee those players were well coached.
Shanahan had his son and now 49ers Head Coach, Kyle Shanahan, as the team’s offensive coordinator. Joining him on the offensive staff was Packers Head Coach, Matt LaFleur, as quarterbacks coach; Rams Head Coach, Sean McVay, with the tightends; and Dolphins Head Coach Mike McDaniel as wide receivers coach.
There are also some guys still clawing their way to becoming head coaches in the NFL. Former Washington defensive analyst now turned Texans offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik is poised to get some inquiries this year as a potential head coach. But some guys have stuck together like the former Washington offensive line coach who followed Kyle Shanahan to the 49ers where he is still an offensive line coach and Raheem Morris who followed Sean McVay to the Rams to become their defensive coordinator.
With that being said it leads to question if this the most successful coaching staff of all time? I guess time will tell but every single one of these now head coaches has had some sort of success in their own right or are having very promising starts to their careers. A lot of people say that Bill Parcells has the greatest coaching tree of all time with names under him like Bill Belichick, Sean Payton, and Nick Saban to name a few. However, give Shanahan’s group a few more years and the debate may really start to heat up.
