Ernie Johnson to be Inducted into the Sports Broadcasting Hall of Fame
Hello World,
Over the weekend, legendary TNT broadcaster Ernie Johnson Jr. received one of the highest honors in broadcasting by being announced as an inductee into the Sports Broadcasting Hall of Fame. The announcement came from his longtime friend and co-star on TNT’s “Inside the NBA”, Charles Barkley.
Johnson is a long standing staple of the NBA on TNT, being with the company for over 30 years and becoming a broadcaster over 40 years ago. His father, Ernie Johnson Sr., inspired his love for broadcasting as he was an MLB player turned sports commentator.
His first job in sports broadcasting would come in college for WAGQ-FM in Athens, Georgia and his career only took off from there. A few years later he would climb his way up to working alongside his dad calling Atlanta Braves gamers from 1993-1996.
But arguably his biggest break would come in the early 90s when he began hosting Inside the NBA, becoming a staple in the NBA community ever since and one of the most respected broadcasters all over sports in his nearly five decades in sports broadcasting.
A true icon of sports getting his well-deserved recognition. I can only dream of aspiring to those levels of success. Congratulations Ernie Johnson Jr!
